Privacy Policy

Last updated: June 23, 2026

This Privacy Policy explains what information Scapewatch ("the game", "we", "us") collects, how we use it, and the choices you have. Scapewatch is operated by Puzzle Drop Studio. If you have any questions, contact us at [email protected].

Who we are

Scapewatch is an idle MMO you play through Steam, in a web browser at scapewatch.com, or on Android. Accounts are tied to Steam, so playing the game means you also use Steam, which is operated by Valve and governed by Valve's own privacy policy.

Information we collect

  • Steam account info. When you sign in, we receive your 64-bit Steam ID and the public display name you choose for the game. We never receive or store your Steam password.
  • Gameplay data. Your saved progress, such as skills, levels, items, quests, collections, settings, hiscores, clan membership, and friends list.
  • Chat and profile content. Messages you send in in-game chat, and any optional creator channel links (for example Twitch or YouTube) you add to your profile.
  • Technical and connection data. Information needed to deliver and secure the game, such as your IP address and basic browser or device details. This is handled by our hosting and content-delivery providers.
  • Moderation data. Records of mutes, bans, and related notes if you break the rules.

We do not collect or process your payment information. Purchases are handled entirely by Steam, and we never see your card or billing details.

How we use your information

  • Run the game, save your progress, and keep you signed in.
  • Provide social and competitive features like hiscores, clans, friends, and chat.
  • Keep the game safe and fair through moderation and anti-abuse measures.
  • Diagnose problems, fix bugs, and improve the game.
  • Send important notices about the game when needed.

If you are in a region that requires a legal basis (such as the EU or UK under the GDPR), we rely on performing our contract with you to provide the game, our legitimate interests in security and improvement, and your consent where it applies.

Where your data is stored

Your account and gameplay data are stored in a PostgreSQL database on a server hosted by Hetzner in Germany. Cloudflare provides DNS, content delivery, and security in front of the server and processes connection data such as your IP address. Backups are stored separately on a Hetzner Storage Box. If you access the game from outside the European Union, your information is transferred to and stored on servers located in the EU.

Third parties we use

  • Valve (Steam) for sign-in, ownership checks, Steam Cloud save sync, achievements, and purchases.
  • Hetzner for server hosting and backups.
  • Cloudflare for content delivery and security.
  • Discord and YouTube only if you click our links or choose to add a channel to your profile.

We do not sell your personal information, and we do not share it with advertisers.

Steam features

The game uses Steam Cloud to sync your saves, Steam achievements, and Rich Presence, which can show that you are playing on Steam and on Discord. Your use of these features is also covered by Valve's and Discord's own policies.

Data retention

We keep your account and gameplay data for as long as your account exists. Chat messages are retained for a limited time to support delivery and moderation. Backups rotate on a regular schedule. When an account is deleted, its save and identity records are removed, though residual copies may remain in backups until they age out.

Your rights and choices

Depending on where you live, you may have the right to access, correct, export, or delete your personal information, and to object to or restrict certain processing. To make a request, including deleting your account and data, email us at [email protected] from an address you can verify, or contact us through our Discord. We will verify your request through your Steam identity before acting on it.

Children

Scapewatch is not directed to children, and we do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13 (or under the minimum age required in your country). Steam also has its own age requirements for creating an account. If you believe a child has provided us information, contact us and we will remove it.

Security

We take reasonable measures to protect your information, including encrypted connections, restricted server access, and a database that is not exposed to the public internet. No method of storage or transmission is completely secure, so we cannot guarantee absolute security.

Changes to this policy

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. When we do, we will change the date at the top of this page, and we will note significant changes in the game or on our channels.
